Who We Are
The San Diego State University - Imperial Valley Prevention Research Center (SDSU-IV PRC) is a community-driven research center committed to improving the health and well-being of Imperial Valley, including its most vulnerable populations. We focus on reducing the health impacts of extreme heat and UV overexposure, which disproportionately affect agricultural workers, children, and older adults in this region.
Our center is built on a strong partnership with Comité Cívico del Valle (CCV). Together, we bring together the expertise of academic researchers, public health professionals, and local community leaders to address the region's most pressing health challenges.
Our team is dedicated to using Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) methods to ensure that our interventions are not only effective but also culturally relevant and sustainable. We collaborate closely with local residents, organizations, and public health partners to develop and implement evidence-based solutions that improve community health and promote resilience in the face of climate change.
At SDSU-IV PRC, we believe that community engagement is essential to creating lasting change. Our approach is grounded in the idea that healthy communities are built through collaboration, empowerment, and the active involvement of local people in the design, implementation, and evaluation of health interventions.
